The Fort Carroll Lighthouse outdoor placard was presented in July 2020. It is located in Fort Smallwood County State Park, Pasadena, Maryland. The Fort Carroll Lighthouse has been on the Lighthouse Digest “Doomsday List” since 1994 and was featured in the May/June & July/August 2020 editions of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. To help bring attention to this deteriorating light, the Chesapeake Chapter chose Fort Smallwood County Park in Pasadena, MD. as the first location in 2020 for an outdoor lighthouse historical display placard featuring the Fort Carroll Lighthouse. It is the second lighthouse historical display at this park. The first display featured the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, installed in 2019.
Fort Smallwood County Park, with an average annual attendance of over 300,000 visitors, is uniquely situated on a peninsula at the entrance to the Pattapsco River. On most days, at least five local lights are visible. The park staff has been extremely cooperative & installed the display at no cost to the Chapter. This helps keep the costs for these National Park Service quality displays low enough, so that the Chapter can install two displays per year with a current annual budget of $2,000. Unfortunately, due to the current medical restrictions, we were not able to hold an unveiling ceremony.
