Chapter volunteers had a short workday down at Calvert Marine Museum. It was a bright and beautiful day with temperatures in the 60s and no threat of rain. We had seven volunteers and our task was to remove the wooden slats around the pavilion that houses the memorial bricks. In the past the pavilion also housed the displays that are now in the old caretakers house. Now that the property is being rented, there is no need for a full time caretaker, so the cottage now serves as the visitors center and the displays with the history of the Cove Point Lighthouse are there. Removing the sides allows more light into the pavilion. I think the plan is to move some picnic tables over to the area so people can sit and enjoy the view. Since we had a good size crew the work went very quickly and we were able to spend some time down at the museum and enjoying the weather.
