Keeper Bio: Davis, Ann

Date of Service: 1830-1847

1830:  James Davis (father of Ann Davis), is appointed Principal Keeper at Point Lookout Lighthouse, MD. On September 20th.

1830:  James Davis dies on duty on December 3rd.

1830:  Ann Davis is appointed Principal Keeper at Point Lookout Lighthouse, MD. On December 12th. Her annual salary is $350.

1831:  In a letter from Stephen Pleasonton, fifth auditor of the U.S. Treasury Department, he writes that Ann Davis is not allowed to sell anymore liquor on the lighthouse grounds.

1838:  In a lighthouse inspection report, the inspector writes: “The fence here ought to be repaired and the leaks in the dwelling house ought to be stopped. I am particularly anxious that this establishment should be put in good repair, as Miss Davis is reported to be one of our best keepers.”

1843:  In a lighthouse inspection report, the inspector writes: “This establishment is marvelously clean & very well kept by the correct Miss Davis.”

1847:  Ann Davis dies while on duty February 1847.
