It was a pleasant day to be out and about in Maryland this past Saturday so it was a nice day for the Chapter volunteers who showed up for the first preservation work day of 2023 on the Lightship Chesapeake in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The ship is in need of some TLC and that is just what the volunteers gave it. The small crew took up their paint brushes an applied some new coats of paint to various surfaces around the ship. This may sound a tad familiar – but there is nothing like a new coat of paint to spruce things up a bit.

Greg was excited to announce that the refurbishment of the stern light was finally completed. This was a project that was started years ago and has been done in fits and starts. It has now been proudly installed in its proper location. (At the stern!)

Volunteers also applied some elbow grease and polished up some of the brass. While maybe not one of the most exciting tasks – it does make a difference in how the ship looks. The next work day in Baltimore is June 17th – so mark your calendars if you want a chance to work on one of our very own National Historic Landmarks.
