Six volunteers headed to the Chesapeake Lightship for another productive workday. Volunteers scraped the remaining walls in the engine room Fidley and applied a coat of primer in and around all the various pieces of equipment. We were able to complete a large proportion of the room. A screen was removed from the upper skylight so it could be restored and returned at some future date. This was far more involved then removing a screen from a window in your home. I’ll leave it at that. A final coat of varnish was applied to the screen door in the Captain’s cabin. Some of the electrical boxes were sanded and primed. The damage control locker was emptied and scraped and primed. (Yes – there appears to be a theme here.) Volunteers working topside were able to see parade that was down the street and would occasionally yell down that an elephant just passed by. On the way home we saw some of the floats headed out of town.
