Volunteers Tony Pasek and Hobie Statzer had a very productive work day on June 27 providing a little TLC to the Concord Point Lighthouse. They were met and assisted by Friends volunteer Floyd Dobson and later meet a new volunteer Sarah Casper-Woodhead, who visited them at the top of the lighthouse and later took some photos.
Their goal was to address a leak that was noted in a previous report. First they concentrated on the exterior siding of the lantern room. They scraped loose paint from the bottom of the frame holding the window panels and added fresh caulk where needed. Then they scraped the exterior wooden sides of the lantern room and filled in any gaps with caulk. After the caulk dried they gave the nine wooden paneled sides of the lantern room a fresh coat of paint.
The two volunteers then turned their attention to the exterior catwalk. They scraped the metal walk and caulked several gaps. Not done yet they then painted the entire catwalk with black “Rust-o-leum”. I’m sure the lantern room is looking very good now because a fresh coat of paint really does make a place look new. Then as Tony noted they then did some additional cleanup of the dead “keeper gnats” in the lantern room before leaving.
On the way home they made a stop at the John O’Neill grave site to replace an American flag that was removed from the Keeper marker.
