1860: In the U.S. Census, William P. Sturtevant’s occupation is a painter.

1870-1873:  William P. Sturtevant, Sr., is named Principal Keeper at Craney Island Lighthouse, VA. His beginning salary is $600/year, and his ending salary is $540/year. (His wife Mary J. Sturtevant served as First Assistant)

1880: In the U.S. Census, William P. Sturtevant is listed as a painter.

1898:  William P. Sturtevant, Sr., dies on November 9th, in Portsmouth, VA. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth
