Jeld-Wen Window and Door Contest!
! This year's Jeld-Wen window and door national contest lighthouses have been announced for public voting. Narrowing the field of candidates from 49 to 12 was quite a challenge, so Jeld-Wen needs your help in selecting the ultimate winner. Voting ends this year at midnight Pacific time on September 7.
Some of the lights selected are: Baltimore Lighthouse - the only lighthouse from the Chesapeake Bay area, and managed by Jane Cox, whom many of you know; Bodie Island - our neighbor to the south which many of us love and which our dear friends at OBLHS help with docenting and advocacy; Rose Island - great place and remarkable work that Charlotte Johnson has done there for the last 20 years; Pemaquid Point - a national treasure and managed by ALF and our friend, Bob Trapani.
So decide... and vote early and vote often.... and you don't have to vote for just one if you have more than one favorite.... and get the word out to your friends, your family, your aquaintances, your work colleagues, everybody. And if they don't have a favorite lighthouse... encourage them to vote for our local Baltimore Lighthouse.

Mark your calendars!
• September 20-21, 2008
• 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Join the Chesapeake Chapter and the lighthouse organizations of Maryland for the 6th Annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge. In light of 2008 being an election year, we will be incorporating an election year theme!
The original ten Challenge lights remain the same: Turkey Point, Concord Point, Seven Foot Knoll and Chesapeake Lightship, Hooper Strait, Drum Point, Cove Point, Point Lookout, Piney Point and Fort Washington.
Visit any or all during the two day period (in any order) and collect a complimentary souvenir at each. Visit all ten and collect a special souvenir, and "cast a vote" for your favorite!
For an even greater "challenge", we are including two 2008 BONUS LIGHTS to this year's event - offshore Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse (can be viewed from land), and the newly constructed Blackistone Lighthouse Replica (a short boat ride from the St. Clement's Island Museum). Note: Due to the additional time it will take to see them, Bonus Lights are optional "add-on" attractions and do not count toward Challenge completion.
